Most of us, when we hit our 50s, 60s and beyond, often wonder, “Is this normal?” And that question often follows new changes that one may experience at this stage of life: new aches and pains, a receding hairline, unexplained weight gain, and memory loss.

"Our multidisciplinary team focuses not just on physical recovery, but cognitive recovery as well," says Loza. "We use memory exercises, problem-solving activities, and routine re-orientation techniques to help retrain the brain."

Cognitive therapy to rebuild memory, focus, and executive function
Physical therapy to improve mobility and reduce fall risk
Medication management to prevent side effects or interactions that may contribute to confusion
Nutritional support to address deficiencies or dehydration

Families are often surprised and relieved to see how quickly their loved one improves.

"We see many cases where patients are admitted after a hospitalization for a UTI," recalls Loza. "Some are completely disoriented, struggling to even recall their own name. With rehab and medical care, the majority of these patients regain lucidity and often return to their families within a couple of weeks."

These outcomes highlight an important message: confusion doesn’t always mean dementia. Timely treatment and supportive rehab can make a profound difference.
